Overall impression

Padró & Co. Rojo Clásico is the Padró family's tribute — produced in Bràfim, Camp de Tarragona — to the vermouth that was once sold in village wine dispensaries and consumed 'religiously on Sunday lunchtimes'. The bodega conceives it as an evocation of the herbal and medicinal aromas of those old establishments, yet backed by the structure that 18% vol. and an extended rest in old casks provide. Within the premium Padró & Co. range, it occupies the place of the benchmark red, flanked by the Reserva Especial (more liqueur-like) and the Rojo Amargo (more intense).

Nose and palate

Mahogany-reddish colour. A very expressive nose: cinnamon and clove dominate over a background of raisined fruit and Mediterranean herbs with a medicinal nuance. On the palate the entry is fresh and creamy; the sweetness is balanced by aromatic plants and an integrated bitterness that extends the finish. More body and alcohol than the Myrrha line (15%), consistent with the house's premium intent.

How to serve it

Very cold, neat or on ice; in a Negroni or Manhattan when a red with greater alcoholic presence is desired. The bodega positions it as a Mediterranean table aperitif, not merely a quick bar serve.

Production context

Base wine from estate Macabeo and Xarel·lo; after the first winter, the red vermouth herb formula is incorporated and the wine rests for 9 to 12 months in 1960s chestnut casks, adapted from their original use in wine transport after a previous life carrying Jerez wines. 18% vol., 75 cl. Produced and bottled at the Padró i Família estate (Bràfim, Tarragona).
