Turmeon Clásico
Vermutpedia Score: 7.4/10
Overall impression
Turmeon Clásico is Bodegas Jaime's homage — family winery at Calle Mayor 13, Morata de Jalón (Zaragoza), making bulk wine since 1846 — to the vermouth recipe passed from generation to generation. The Turmeon brand was relaunched by the fifth Jaime generation in 2015, recovering a hundred-year-old formula from the family library. Versus Turmeon Original or bolder varieties (Weed, Rosé, Honey, Zero), Clásico bets on the authentic: everyday Spanish vermouth without concessions. The house presents it as the vermouth of always, but more alive than ever — deep mahogany, brilliant and elegant. 15% vol.; 130 g/l sugar; main 1-litre format in the online shop.
Nose and palate
Deep mahogany, brilliant and elegant. Balanced nose: sweet spices (cinnamon, clove), toasted dried fruit, bitter orange and a refreshing balsamic nuance. On the palate it is silky and enveloping, with controlled sweetness (130 g/l per the product sheet), balanced bitterness and a lightly spiced finish that invites another pour. Less oxidative than a very long solera vermouth, but with the roundness Macabeo as sole grape variety provides. Cinnamon, clove, orange peel and wormwood from the family recipe integrate without the density of Turmeon Original's 140 g/l. Texture is smooth rather than unctuous; the finish stays spiced and inviting rather than cloying. Compared with industrial Spanish reds, Clásico keeps solera identity and honest botanical maceration. For anyone wanting Turmeon without the indulgent register of Original, this is the range's most traditional face — verifiable at turmeon.com/producto/turmeon-clasico/.
How to serve it
Quiet aperitivo, after-dinner or home tap vermouth with olives and nibbles. Turmeon recommends serving with ice, one olive and orange peel — the house classic format — or as a cocktail base. The winery conceives it for gathering people around the table, in the line of Aragonese convivial vermouth.
Production context
Made in Morata de Jalón with Macabeo as the sole variety and botanicals including cinnamon, clove, orange peel and wormwood, among other herbs from the family recipe. 15% vol., litre format in main catalogue (750 ml references also in the online shop). Bodegas Jaime combines century-old soleras with an expanded range including Original, Blanco, Rosé and 3 L tap formats. Part of the wine ages in barrels over eighty years old per Pipero tradition; criadera and solera system shared across the Turmeon line. For Vermutpedia, Turmeon Clásico synthesises castizo Aragonese red vermouth: Macabeo, solera, 130 g/l semisweet profile and family recipe documented at turmeon.com. The traditional counterweight to Original's indulgence within the same house.
