Vermouth Barañano Egurrez

Licores Barañano

Amurrio , España

Overall impression

Vermouth Barañano Egurrez is the limited edition from Licores Barañano (Amurrio): the same vermouth base inspired by the 1881 recipe, aged in a cask that previously matured Ardbeg Islay Scotch whisky. Batch of 656 bottles; the house highlights unctuousness, structure and smoke-peat nuances from the wood, with harmony sought between vermouth and irreplaceable oak. 93 Verema points. Peak of the Barañano vermouth line versus the standard unaged red.

Nose and palate

Pending evaluation.

How to serve it

Neat, very cold or on ice in a premium glass; also in cocktails where a smoky vermouth adds depth (author Negroni, Manhattan with an Islay twist). A collector's product rather than everyday tap vermouth.

Production context

Licores Barañano, Amurrio (Álava). 15% vol., 75 cl. Limited edition in the vermouth range alongside classic Vermouth Barañano and Vermouth Blanco Barañano; part of the Egurrez line that also includes barrel-aged Patxaran Gaizka Egurrez.
