Overall impression

Vermut Marinero Garvey is the vermouth bet of Bodegas Garvey (Jerez, Emperador/Fundador group since 2017): according to El Periódico, the world's only vermouth macerated with seaweed — fucus, ulva and plankton — alongside botanicals from the bay of Cádiz and Palomino wine from the Macharnudo vineyard. Saline note from Jerez terroir caressed by poniente and levante winds. Launched as a groundbreaking proposal for the Andalusian aperitivo.

Nose and palate

Clean mahogany colour. On the nose: citrus, white fruit, rosemary, gentian, sage, mineral and saline hints of sea breeze and seaweed. Balanced acidic palate with sweetness and bitterness; persistent saline nuances and marine aftertaste according to press tasting.

How to serve it

With plenty of ice and an orange twist; pairs with fried fish, tortillita de camarones or ibérico ham. ~€9.95 RRP according to Expansión. A maritime Jerez vermouth for coastal aperitivo and Andalusian fried tapas.

Production context

Bottled by Garvey (founded 1780). Macharnudo Palomino + Cádiz botanicals + native seaweed from the coast. 15% vol., 75 cl. Distinct from vermouths on pure flor or oloroso; Atlantic-Jerez identity.
