Vermut Medusa Negre is the classic red of Celler Manyé Fortuny (La Secuita, Camp de Tarragona), a family winery since 1940. Third generation maintaining the formula devised by the Manyé grandparents — vermouth «made the old way» according to the house. The name evokes the Roman Medusa mosaic found in the Tarragona port quarry (1848), symbol of the Camp de Tarragona vermouth culture.

Nose and palate

Made with local wines and carefully selected botanicals according to vermutmedusa.com. Classic Tarragona profile: sweet-bitter balance typical of the comarca's vermouth. La Vermu describes candied fruit, spice, chocolate and coffee nuances with gentian present in the aftertaste on aged references in the range; the Negre is the unaged entry without prolonged barrel ageing.

How to serve it

Cold for Mediterranean aperitivo; usual 1 L format in specialist channel (~€6.95 RRP La Vermu). The everyday litre red of Tarragona vermouth tradition.

Production context

Made in La Secuita (Tarragona). Celler history: Estanislau Manyé sold his own wine in Tarragona from 1940 until becoming a vermouth producer. 15% vol. Siblings: Medusa Blanc, Reserva and Gran Reserva.
