Pillar guide
From supermarket vermute to artisan projects: ranking of Portuguese vermouths with a published score. Portuguese quinados have separate profiles.
Portugal has a deep-rooted culture of vermute and quinado for home consumption: Hernandez, Poças, Quevedo, or Casa de Canhotos sit alongside litre formats from mass retail. The Lusophone catalogue on Vermutpedia is more compact than the Spanish one, but with very defined profiles.
This guide brings together the highest-scoring vermouths among the profiles already tasted. Quinados — very popular in Portugal — have their own reviews, but they do not compete in this table.
We rank by Vermutpedia Score (0–10). Only vermouths with a published score are included. The listing below shows every Portuguese profile in the catalogue, including those still unrated or from other aperitif families.
The Portuguese catalogue on Vermutpedia is expanding. This table includes only vermouths with a published Vermutpedia Score; Portuguese quinados and quinquinas (Niepoort, Ramos Pinto Quinado…) are not included in this ranking even when they appear in the Portugal catalogue.

Check the table at the top: the first position belongs to the Portuguese vermouth with the highest published Vermutpedia Score. Hernandez Reserva leads the ranking in the latest editorial update.
The local market often uses "vermute". On Vermutpedia we unify nomenclature under "vermut" to make searching easier, but profiles respect original commercial names.
It is a quinado, not a vermouth. We review it in the Portugal catalogue with its own profile and score, but this ranking compares only aromatised wine aperitifs.
Hernandez Rosso or Poças Soberbo are accessible entry points. For more complexity, try Hernandez Reserva or Quevedo's seasonal editions.
