Martini Riserva Speciale Rubino
Overall impression
Vermutpedia is re-evaluating the Italian catalogue; this entry's Vermutpedia Score remains pending until the new tasting round is complete. MARTINI Riserva Speciale Rubino is a bold, full-bodied Vermouth di Torino embodying complexity and sophistication within the Martini & Rossi Riserva Speciale range, according to martini.com. Made from Italian wines — including Langhe Nebbiolo — and infused with unique botanicals such as red sandalwood, artemisia and holy thistle, it offers a woody profile with herbaceous and bitter notes; its intense ruby tone reflects concentrated flavours. The name «Rubino» for ruby colour, in the Martini tradition distinguishing Rosso, Rosato and colour expressions. Concentrated botanical extracts with more than two months' rest in oak before bottling. 18% vol., 75 cl. Complementary to Ambrato in the Riserva Speciale line. For Vermutpedia, it represents accessible premium Italian red vermouth: red fruit, spice, wood and heritage verifiable on Martini's official website.
Nose and palate
Deep, clean ruby colour. On the nose, red fruits — strawberry, raspberry, redcurrant — with black pepper, artemisia and sandalwood; herbal, spiced background with woody nuances from oak rest. On the palate, full-bodied and fruity with wormwood bitterness balanced by semisweet sweetness; pepper spice, subtle woody notes and red fruits persisting in a long, herbal, refreshing finish. Broad texture, round passage, greater density than classic Martini Rosso. Compared with 15% bar reds, Rubino is more alcoholic, fruity and complex; against Martini Bitter, it maintains vinous structure and integrated sweetness. A red for palates that appreciate fine detail — dark spice, fruit, wood — consistent with the official description of «rich woody profile with herbaceous and bitter notes» on martini.com.
How to serve it
The house proposes the author MARTINI Negroni: 30 ml Riserva Speciale Rubino, 30 ml Riserva Speciale Bitter, 30 ml gin, ice and orange wedge — official recipe on martini.com. Also alone with ice and orange slice, in Americano gentler than with standard Rosso, or in Rubino & Tonic with tonic and orange. Official pairing: dark spices and salty — Parma ham, serrano ham, salami; to accompany the bubbling depth of Rubino & Tonic, pistachio mortadella and stuffed olives. Cold temperature; ice that dilutes without hiding fruit and wood. Not economical terrace litre vermouth: gourmet aperitif with presence. 75 cl format, 18% vol. For Vermutpedia, Rubino demands cold service in Negroni, alone with citrus or with tonic, per Martini aperitif culture.
Production context
Martini & Rossi (Piedmont) makes Riserva Speciale Rubino as Vermouth di Torino: Piedmont Italian wines, including Langhe Nebbiolo; botanicals — red sandalwood, artemisia, holy thistle, Ecuadorian cinchona bark, three types of wormwood (Absinthium, Pontica, Vulgaris)—; concentrated extracts with more than two months' rest in oak. 18% vol., 75 cl. Riserva Speciale range alongside Ambrato and Bitter. Owned by Bacardi Limited. Contains sulphites. For Vermutpedia, Riserva Speciale Rubino synthesises premium Piedmont red vermouth: Nebbiolo, oak, 18% vol. and ruby profile verifiable at martini.com/products/riserva-speciale-rubino/.
