Vermut Cardamom

Quart de Kilo

Valencia , España

Overall impression

Vermut Cardamom is the first creation from Quart de Kilo (C/ Quart 72, Valencia), the bulk and gourmet shop of Carmen Peris and Fátima Nassar, made in partnership with Bodegas Urbanas (Godella). According to La Semana Vitivinícola, Nassar and Peris’s idea was shaped by oenologist Rosalía Rodríguez with advice from Arrutzi Nájera: a vermouth that joins Valencian orange with ginger and cardamom from Lebanese gastronomy, among more classic botanicals. The shop presents it as made «with a unique selection of cardamom», with exotic and spiced notes. For Vermutpedia, it documents a Valencian author vermouth of cultural bridge: eastern spices on a Mediterranean base, born in a neighbourhood shop and bottled at Godella’s urban winery.

Nose and palate

Pending evaluation. Press tasting (La Semana Vitivinícola, Vicent Escamilla): moderate aromatic intensity; opens with bitter orange and caramelised orange peel, white flowers and a ginger background that gains presence in the glass; light alpine feel, wormwood and root, with defined cardamom. On the palate dense, balanced bitters of liquorice and pan caramel, light syrup, good acidity and measured alcoholic weight; spiced aftertaste and a «spicy» lean.

How to serve it

Per Quart de Kilo, well chilled with a frozen orange slice. La Semana Vitivinícola places it as an aperitif with cheeses and cured meats, and also in harmony with complex sweets (panettone at the launch). Typical serving temperature 6–10 °C.
