Carmeleta Rosso
Vermutpedia Score: 7.4/10
Overall impression
Carmeleta Rosso is «Sangre de naranjo» (orange tree blood): Valencian red vermouth built on wormwood, artemisia, elderflower, hibiscus and Cretan dittany, closed with orange tree leaves, bark and root, caramel colouring and Saigon cinnamon. An exuberant adaptation of classic vermouth with Mediterranean soul. 15% vol., 75 cl. For Vermutpedia, Rosso is the spiced, liquorice-forward red that anchors the Carmeleta range alongside the citrus Orange and the sensual Rosseta — Valencian terroir expressed through the orange tree.
Nose and palate
Morello cherry blood colour. Liquorice and citrus peel, aromatic and intense, with balsamic nuances. Generous, balanced in acidity; long bitter and spiced aftertaste on a base of Muscat, Malvasía, Planta Nova and Macabeo. The official sheet describes intense liquorice flavour, bitter and spiced — consistent with wormwood, hibiscus and orange tree bark integration. Compared with classic Spanish bar reds, Carmeleta Rosso bets on Valencian botany and orange tree identity rather than anonymous herbal blends.
How to serve it
Serve very cold with ice and olive; pairs with cheeses, charcuterie and Mediterranean cooking or in a Valencian Negroni. Orange twist enhances the citrus bark and liquorice. Works in Americano and Manhattan when a semisweet red with Mediterranean spice and less solera weight than Jerez is wanted. Temperature between 6 and 10 °C in a wide glass. Ideal for terrace aperitivo with Valencian tapas.
