Overall impression

Fot-Li Rojo was born in 2016 under Toni Omedes Alegre and is made entirely in Reus, a city the bodega itself calls «the cradle of fine vermouth». The origin seal on the back of the bottle is not marketing: Alegre Wines & Spirits is committed to reviving the Reus method of barrel maceration with aromatic plants. With annual production of around 25,000 bottles, it holds a prominent place in the new generation of Catalan vermouths with a clear territorial identity.

Nose and palate

Dark brown with amber flashes. Herbaceous, elegant aroma: rosemary, sage and vanilla on the nose; on the palate it is warm, sweet and balanced, with thyme, hazelnut and vanilla recalling the hazelnut tradition of Reus («Reus, Paris, London», as the modernist label proclaims). The 16% vol. lends structure on the palate, more body than a light house pour — consistent with the founder's intention to seek character, not just sweetness.

How to serve it

Well chilled with ice, orange or olive; in a Negroni or classic bar drinks where an oak-aged red adds depth. The bodega conceives it as a vermouth for conversation, not just a quick aperitif.

Production context

Garnacha Blanca (mostly from DO Terra Alta and DO Montsant, with some from Penedès and La Mancha), macerated three weeks with 19 botanicals — mandarin, orange peel, anise, cardamom, bay, oregano, fennel, nutmeg — and aged in French (80%) and American (20%) oak barrels of around 15 years with medium toast. 16% vol., 75 cl. Completes the range alongside Blanco and Fórmula Antiga (31 botanicals, solera).
