Overall impression

Vermut Cori Negre — also marketed on the Miró website as the red reference of the Cori project — is the red complement to the range created in 2014 by Joan Tàpias, owner of the Museu del Vermut de Reus, and produced by Vermuts Miró using the Tàpias family formula, entirely separate from the standard house recipes. According to the official Cori product documentation on vermutmiro.com, it shares the production framework of the white: a Reus vermouth with maceration of wine and aromatic herbs where wormwood, gentian, clove, cinnamon and vanilla stand out, among others. The red variant is described with an earthy red colour and tile highlights, clear and bright, an intense and fresh profile, and a forthright character on the palate. It does not appear among the vermouths awarded at the Premis Vinari 2026 that Miró officially documents for that year — Reserva, Fusión, Rosé and Zero; Cori is an author line of the museum, not a reference in the distillery's competitive range. At fifteen degrees in a 75 cl bottle, it represents the red vermouth of the Tàpias-Miró ecosystem within the eight Vermut de Reus brands that perpetuate the traditional method of Catalonia's vermouth capital.

Nose and palate

The Cori red sheet on vermutmiro.com offers a specific organoleptic profile: intense and fresh aroma with oregano, mint and caramel, orange-type citrus notes and a forthright sensation on the palate with a prolonged finish and a light bitter ending. Visually, the earthy red colour with tile highlights anticipates a more terroir-driven, Mediterranean style than the deeply coloured industrial reds. The nose combines fresh herbaceousness — mint, oregano — with caramel sweetness and orange citrus, in line with the declared botanical base of wormwood, gentian, clove, cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate the sip is direct and honest, with balance between semisweet sweetness and contained bitterness at the close; the texture is medium, persistent without being heavy. The botanicals and herbs of the maceration provide aromatic complexity without the density of a solera vermouth. The result is a Reus bar and aperitif red, designed for ice and savoury accompaniments rather than complex cocktails, consistent with the Catalan vermouth tradition of social and gastronomic drinking.

How to serve it

Cori Negre fits the Reus aperitif ritual: very cold, over ice in a wide glass, with an orange slice or candied orange and olives or Catalan aperitif conservas. Its forthright profile and light bitter finish work well with anchovies, jamón ibérico crisps or semicured cheeses. It can also be incorporated in a simple mix with soda or bar bitter when a red with Mediterranean herbaceousness is sought. At a moderate 15% vol., it is suited to long terrace sessions or weekend vermouth gatherings. The 75 cl bottle is available at vermutmiro.com. For those following the Reus vermouth trail, Cori red offers the bottled version of Joan Tàpias's passion for traditional vermouth, complementary to the white from the same brand and to the experiential Museu del Vermut where the project was born in 2014.

Production context

Vermuts Miró bottles Cori Negre in Reus following the Tàpias family recipe, with maceration of aromatic herbs over a wine base within the Vermut de Reus framework. Production shares the declared botanicals with the white — wormwood, gentian, clove, cinnamon, vanilla — adapted to the earthy red profile described officially. Fifteen degrees alcohol, 75 cl, no wood ageing. The project arose from the collaboration between Joan Tàpias, the Museu del Vermut — an emblematic restaurant-museum opened in 2014 — and the Miró distillery, one of the eight active vermouth brands in Reus according to official territorial promotion. Cori Blanco and Cori Negre make up the complete range. For Vermutpedia, this red is the Reus museum vermouth in its tinted form: Tàpias identity, Miró bottling, Vermut de Reus tradition, not to be confused with the Vinari awards that the house earns for other own-brand references in recent editions of the Catalan competition.
