Miró Reserva
Vermutpedia Score: 8.2/10
Overall impression
Vermouth Miró Reserva is the deepest expression of Emilio Miró Salvat, S.A., the historic Reus (Tarragona) bodega and an undisputed reference in Catalan vermouth. According to vermutmiro.com, it is made to the ancient Miró family formula, aged by the solera method and bottled after a long maceration with a great variety of natural herbs blended for an inimitable flavour. Amber in colour with a development towards brick, clear and bright; touches of oak and spice softened by the freshness of natural woodland herbs. On the palate it is more complex and characterful, very well balanced and with great persistence. Available in 75 cl, 1 L, 3 L and 5 L formats; the official litre sheet declares 16% vol. For Vermutpedia, Miró Reserva represents the Reus vermouth in a solera-reserve register: balsamic, Mediterranean herbal and steeped in century-old tradition, distinct from the young vermouth of the same house.
Nose and palate
The official store describes mahogany with amber highlights, clear and bright. On the nose, sweetness with toasted and spiced notes, touches of oak softened by the freshness of natural plants; mentholated nuances, gentian, rhubarb, orange peel, vanilla and Mediterranean plants such as rosemary and fennel. On the palate it is unctuous, full-bodied and characterful; a velvety, very fresh and herbaceous palate with a pronounced balsamic quality, liquorice and caramel, a bitter and spiced touch. The finish is very well balanced and long-persistent. The solera method and extended maceration add layers that the classic Miró cannot reach: more oak, more spice, more complexity. Compared with barrel-aged vermouths from Rioja or Jerez, Miró Reserva maintains its Reus DNA — alpine and Mediterranean herbs from the original formula — with greater density and character. A vermouth for palates that value persistence and balsamic balance.
How to serve it
Miró Reserva is designed to be enjoyed neat over a large ice cube with orange peel — a format that highlights its complexity and the citrus notes of the maceration. It also works as a classic Reus-style aperitif with olives and preserved fish, very cold at 6–8 °C. The house promotes vermouth as a terrace and social ritual, faithful to Reus's tradition as the historic capital of Catalan vermouth. In cocktails, it can replace a standard red vermouth in a Negroni or Manhattan when greater balsamic and spiced depth is sought. For a leisurely tasting, a wine glass without ice allows the persistence and finish to show fully. It is not a light, quick-sipping vermouth: it invites an aperitif with aged cheeses, cured meats and nuts. The 1 L or 3 L format suits a shared table and bars with a vermouth-drinking heritage.
Production context
Emilio Miró Salvat, S.A. produces Miró Reserva at C/ Adrià Gual 10, Reus (43206, Tarragona), following a historic family formula.
