Overall impression

Vermouth Iris Dorado is the historic golden vermouth of Reus, the most popular of the Iris range and base of the city's traditional bulk vermouth according to GuiaVermut. De Muller acquired Cochs SA (1946) in 1999 and maintains the centenary formula of ~150 Mediterranean botanicals. Intermediate profile between red and white: sweet, herbaceous and versatile. Gold medal in black/golden vermouths at Premis Vinari dels Vermuts Catalans according to distributors.

Nose and palate

Reddish-brown colour with copper reflections. Very perfumed, persistent, sweetish nose: vanilla, cinnamon, sage, rosemary, liquorice on an herbal base. Intense, warm, sweetish and clean palate; spiced sensations with memories of chamomile, pennyroyal, bay and coriander.

How to serve it

Classic Reus aperitif: neat, with ice or soda; accompany vinegar preserves or olives. Also available in 1 L format depending on market. Vermutpedia note: unrated.

Production context

Made in Reus (Tarragona) by Bodegas De Muller. Cochs formula of ~150 Mediterranean botanicals macerated in white wine base, fortified before bottling. 15% vol. Iris range: Blanco, Dorado, Rojo and GinIris; plus De Muller Reserva in barrel.
